Wombat Security Launches Security Essentials for Executives Training Module

New role-based training designed to educate leaders and decision makers

Pittsburgh, PA – June 15, 2016 Wombat Security Technologies (Wombat), the leading provider of cyber security awareness and training solutions, today launched Security Essentials for Executives, a role-based cybersecurity awareness and training module designed specifically for executives to prevent corporate whaling, business email compromise (BEC), and other cyber threats.

Board members, managers, executives, and members of the C-suite have access to sensitive corporate data, making them prime targets of whaling campaigns and BEC attacks. Organizations have lost $2.3 billion to BEC attacks between October 2013 and February 2016, and wire transfer fraud is the most commonly reported exploit. Often, successful whaling campaigns don’t just end with financial loss, but can lead to severe consequences for organizations, including loss of reputation, public scrutiny, and legal action. In an effort to combat whaling, Wombat’s Security Essentials for Executives module offers interactive cybersecurity training that is designed for privileged users such as corporate leaders and Board members.

“Relatively simple cyber security best practices can pay dividends across departments, locations, and job functions, so it is important for executives to be an essential part of creating a culture of security from the top down,” said Amy Baker, VP of Marketing at Wombat Security.

Wombat’s Security Essentials for Executives module is scenario-driven where executives learn by doing via engaging scenarios set in four familiar locations: the private office, the corporate office, home, and meeting and conference venues.

  • Private office scenario: includes tips for security data and communications while working outside the office.
  • Corporate office scenario: includes guidelines for internal and external communications, the keys to physical security, and tips on how to set a security example that other employees can follow.
  • Home scenario: explains how to secure data and communications while working outside the office.
  • Meeting and conference venue scenario: offers important security safeguards for internal and external meetings.

The scenario-based module is designed to provide quick yet effective training for busy executives and leaders. All of Wombat’s nearly 20 Interactive Training Modules utilize Learning Science Principles to engage the learner and change behavior.  By providing training in the context of possible real-world scenarios, leaders are more likely to retain the information from the lessons. The module also highlights real-world incidents where executives have been exploited.

Wombat’s training solutions provide employees with pieces of information in each short training session and reinforce lessons over time with frequent feedback and opportunities for practice. Wombat’s solutions allow employees to go through the lessons at their own pace, so the Security Essentials for Executives module is a quick way to get leaders up to speed on best cyber security practices for maintaining a good security posture throughout the organization.
