XJoe Ferrara, President & CEO of Wombat Security Technologies, to Present Social Engineering: Lessons from the Real World
Pittsburgh, PA – April 23, 2015 - Wombat Security Technologies (Wombat), a leading provider of cyber security awareness and training solutions, today announced the company’s participation at Interop Las Vegas 2015. Joe Ferrara, President and CEO of Wombat, will present at Dark Reading Cyber Security Crash Course and InfoSec & Risk Management Track at a this two-day event. Crash Course is a full day of cyber security speed sessions, focusing on the component blocks of robust enterprise security. It covers the essentials that IT teams need to identify vulnerabilities, and prevent infiltration. Wombat will present on Social Engineering, and outline steps to strengthen a company’s overall stance against cyber-attacks including innovative employee security awareness and training strategies. The speed session, “Social Engineering—How Users Get Fooled (And How to Stop It),” will take place at Mandalay Bay Hotel on Wednesday, April 29, from 2:30-3:00 p.m. A panel Q & A will close the Crash Course Summit.
In addition, Joe Ferrara will present “Social Engineering: Lessons from the Real World,” on Friday, May 1, during the InfoSec & Risk Management Track, also at Mandalay Bay. Mr. Ferrara will be available directly following this presentation for a question and answer session intended for members of the media who are interested in the topic of security awareness and training.
“According to the 2015 Verizon Data Breach Infections Report, the percentage of people opening phishing messages has actually increased in the last year,” said Joe Ferrara, President and CEO of Wombat. “This is an indicator that too few people understand social engineering threats and have the knowledge to protect themselves and their companies from attacks.”
WHAT:
The Dark Reading Cyber Security Crash Course Speed Session, “Social Engineering: How Users Get Fooled (And How to Stop It),” will uncover ways that cybercriminals exploit end user vulnerability to disguise and deceive. Real world incidences will provide a framework of what organizations must to do identify, mitigate and prevent social engineering attacks from being successful. This session offers an overview of the key concepts behind social engineering, including:
The Q & A Panel: Will allow participants to ask questions about Social Engineering and other topics from the Crash Course in a collegial, supportive atmosphere.
The InfoSec & Risk Management Session, “Social Engineering: Lessons from the Real World,” will identify ways social engineering has been used in most of the major security breaches over the last few years. In general, people are easier to trick than computers and security systems. What are the methods that cyber criminals and other attackers are using today to trick users into clicking on an attachment or giving up their logon credentials? What do these attacks look like, and how can end users be trained to avoid them? In this unique session, Ferrara will offer real-life demonstrations of these attacks and show you, step by step, how end users are fooled into downloading malware or giving away sensitive information. There will also be a discussion of how to defend against these attacks through both training and technology.
