RSA and Wombat Security Technologies Take the Stage at RSA Europe 2012 to Show how Effective Security Awareness Training can Reduce the Risk of Company Breaches

Rashmi Knowles, Chief Security Architect of RSA, The Security Division of EMC, and Joe Ferrara, President & CEO of Wombat Security Technologies, to Present how Innovative User Training is Helping Companies Thwart Advanced Cyber Security Threats

RSA Conference Europe 2012 -  London, England, 8 October 2012 - Wombat Security Technologies (Wombat), a leading provider of cyber security awareness and training solutions, today announced the company’s participation at RSA Conference Europe 2012. Joe Ferrara, President and CEO of Wombat, and Rashmi Knowles, Chief Security Architect of RSA, will jointly present how innovative security awareness training is now an imperative step in a company’s overall stance against the growing threat of cyber crime. The session, “Training Employees to Recognise and Avoid Advanced Threats,” will take place at King’s Suite B (West Wing) on 11 October 2012 at Hilton London Metropole Hotel.  In addition, Rashmi Knowles will be giving a lunchtime presentation titled “How Can you Configure the Human Firewall?” to be held on 11 October 2012 in Discussion Group Area D.  Both Ms. Knowles and Mr. Ferrara will be available directly following this presentation in Discussion Group Area D for a question and answer session intended for members of the media who are interested in the topic of security awareness training.

“In a time when cyber security threats are escalating at an alarming rate, employees are quickly becoming a very weak link in the security chain that must be addressed by all organisations as part of a holistic cyber security programme,” said Joe Ferrara, President and CEO of Wombat. “EMC is the prototype example for how technology leaders can leverage effective security awareness training like gaming or simulated attacks, to help employees become part of their company’s active defense against the most advanced or sophisticated attacks.

The session, “Training Employees to Recognize and Avoid Advanced Threats,” will

demonstrate how engaging and interactive user training increases end-user participation and drives home the message that they could be responsible for a major information breach.  Attendees will leave the session with ten proven principles for effective employee security awareness  training, including:

–      Start by conducting an overall assessment of existing vulnerabilities and ensure buy-in from C- level executives.

–      Educate everyone who touches company information by making it relevant to their particular role and putting it in context for them.

–      Listen to users and ensure you have some metrics on what elements of your training programme is successful - then be prepared to change the programme if you need to.

–      Security awareness and user training should never be seen as a Compliance issue or treated as a check box item.

Rashmi Knowles has over 20 years of experience in data communications, mobile communications and has focused on Information Security for the last 15 years.   In her role at RSA, Ms. Knowles is responsible for Technology and Compliance Solutions for the EMEA region and provides thought Leadership for emerging technologies and is a key spokesperson in the region for RSA’s Virtualisation and Cloud strategy and Compliance Solutions as well as a subject matter expert on Data Loss Prevention and Encryption Solutions.
