Pittsburgh, PA –Aug 12, 2014– Wombat Security Technologies (Wombat) released a new industry case study to demonstrate how one innovative Northeastern college successfully reduced effective phishing attacks. This college leveraged Wombat’s highly efficient security awareness training solutions to dramatically reduce successful phishing attacks by 90%.
To describe the state of security awareness at the school in prior years, its information security officer said, “We used to see situations in which someone would have a virus on his or her computer or unintentionally install spyware. We didn’t have a lot of widespread issues. But alarm grew as the years went by and security breaches became increasingly dire.”
He added: “The scale and sophistication of phishing attacks is increasing, and our school started realizing how much security as a whole was important,” he added. “Our administration realized we needed to do more than just buy another firewall or another appliance. We needed to actually focus on our people.”
Since deploying the Wombat Security program in 2012, “the effectiveness of the product has been fantastic,” said the information security officer. For starters, administrators have learned just how detrimental it can be to the school when sensitive information is compromised. Using the Wombat product has raised the levels of accountability for each staff member.
The school has been able to enjoy the following benefits:
Wombat has deep roots in the Security Awareness and Training Market, and is a recognized authority, having recently been named the Gold winner of the 2014 Global Excellence Awards in Tomorrow’s Technology Today for its Security Training Platform and Bronze winner in the New Product category for its CyberStrength® Security Awareness assessment product.
Wombat’s CEO, Joe Ferrara, who recently been named as “CEO of the Year” by the CEO Awards, stated, “What I think is so powerful about this story is the school’s success in changing employee behavior as evidenced by the significant reduction in the number of successful phishing attacks, as well as spyware and virus infections on campus. These are results every organization should strive for from their security education program.”
