Wombat Security Technologies offers training for more elaborate cyber threats

Not every cyber security threat is as easy to spot as that Nigerian banker’s email promising millions of dollars in exchange for passwords or bank account numbers. More and more scams are emulating friends, coworkers or local businesses, and it’s these ruses that Wombat Security Technologies’ training aims to squash.

The Oakland-based start-up has been selling anti-phishing training software to clients to teach employees how to spot potentially dangerous emails, and now the company is broadening its product line to also address password security, social networking, smartphones and mobility, according to CEO Joe Ferrara.
